Noi detalii despre PS3 Home, date de lansare şi beta

GDC 2007 fiind acum încheiat, putem afirma liniştiţi că Sony au rupt gura târgului cu discursul lui Phil Harrison. Acesta a găzduit anunţului lui Home, un serviciu online 3D gratuit pentru PlayStation 3, iar inovatorul joc LittleBigPlanet a fost prezentat de asemenea în premieră de către Media Molecule. Acestea două au fost îndeajuns pentru a-i readuce pe Sony în lumina reflectoarelor, taman la timp pentru lansarea europeană a consolei lor next-gen; au mai rămas doar zece zile, apropo. Acum că au iar parte de ştiri favorabile, aceştia se lasă duşi de val şi dezvăluie tot mai multe detalii despre serviciul PS3 Home.

Mulţumită lui GI.biz, am dat de urma unui document PDF intitulat "Home Development Q&A" pe site-ul Sony, în care sunt oferite răspunsuri la întrebări care mai de care mai tehnice, dar şi legat de subiecte interesante pentru noi, muritorii de rând.

Poate cea mai importantă informaţie apărută e programul de lansare a serviciului Home. Prima fază de testări beta (closed) se va desfăşura din aprilie până în august, găzduind cam 15,000 useri. Următorul beta (open) va permite accesul a vreo 50,000 useri, şi va continua din august până în octombrie - când serviciul Home e plănuit pentru marea lansare.

Mai jos, am încercat să alegem doar câteva amănunte conţinute în document:

- In time Home will play host to many types of event. Bespoke events such as exclusive game previews and developer interviews will be organised by Home and its affiliated content providers. Live events such as sports and concerts may also be broadcast within Home.

- All transactions will use the Sony Wallet system within the PSN Store, although ultimately transactions will be possible without leaving Home.

- Initially Home will only be accessible via that PlayStation 3, although over time our intention is to enable users to interface certain Home features and services via other networked devices such as PlayStation Portable (PSP) and mobile phones.

- We're aiming for the initial download to be under 500MB. Subsequent downloads will hopefully integrate a streaming method that makes them negligible.

- Your Home user name will be the same as your PSN account ID.

- Currently Home is not a persistent world, so when you leave Home, all of your possessions go with you. For instance, it is not currently possible for other users to visit your apartment while you're not there. We are working on the persistent aspect of Home, and expect to implement it in the long term.

- Ultimately, an auction service will be implemented that will allow users to sell their Home assets and user-created content to other users.

Un lucru interesant mărturisit de Phil Harrison (şefu' Sony Worldwide Studios) într-un interviu cu MTV e acela că Home s-a născut de fapt pe PlayStation 2, ca un sistem simplu de 3D lobby care să concteze diverse jocuri PS2. Asta până când şi-au dat seama de potenţialul său, şi s-au gândit: "actually this should be a platform initiative and this is something we should bring to all PlayStation 3 games and all PlayStation 3 users". Zis şi făcut.
