Ken Kutaragi, 'părintele lui PlayStation' se retrage

N-o fi o veste la fel de dramatică precum ieşirea la pensie a lui Hiroshi Yamauchi de la Nintendo acum aproape cinci ani (după ce a condus compania cu un pumn de fier timp de 53 ani!), dar când "părintele lui PlayStation" se retrage din funcţia sa executivă de la Sony Computer Entertainment, se impune măcar o trecere în revistă! După cum poate îţi mai aminteşti din noiembrie (ştire), Ken Kutaragi cedase deja poziţia de preşedinte al SCE, rămânând doar ca chairman şi membru al consiliului de directori ai companiei. Iar acum, Sony anunţă că acesta îşi va abandona complet responsabilităţile executive / manageriale la următoarea şedinţă anuală a acţionarilor, din 19 iunie 2007.

Oricum, însă, Ken Kutaragi va avea asigurat ulterior un post confortabil de "Honorary Chairman" al SCE, aşa că viitorul său financiar nu e deloc în pericol. În locul său, Kazuo "Kaz" Hirai (actualmente preşedinte şi COO al grupului SCEI), va fi promovat în calitate de preşedinte şi CEO, continuându-şi de asemenea responsabilităţile de lider al departamentului PlayStation la nivel mondial. Anunţul include şi următoarea rememorare a meritelor atribuite lui Kutaragi cât timp a fost la Sony:

"Mr. Kutaragi, well known as the "Father of PlayStation", invented and launched the original PlayStation in 1994 and its successor, PlayStation 2, in 2000. Since the introduction of PlayStation and subsequently PlayStation 2, these platforms opened up a vast market of computer entertainment. The two platforms combined now have an installed base of more than 200 million units in homes around the world, with more than 2 billion units of PlayStation and PlayStation 2 software titles shipped worldwide. The third generation of the company's home computer entertainment system, PlayStation 3, launched in November 2006 in Japan and North America and in March 2007 in Europe, will continue to revolutionize the computer entertainment experience with its immense computational power connected to the network."

Ne aşteptăm să mai auzim încă destule despre Kutaragi pe viitor, totuşi, pe măsură ce va lăsa în urmă "epoca PlayStation" şi îşi va urma viziunea sa de networking:

"I am happy to graduate from Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. after introducing four platforms to the PlayStation family", a spus Ken Kutaragi.
